Logistics Manager
Individual to coordinate and implement efforts to move biopesticide products from pilot and manufacturing facilities to customers and collaborators in a variety of foreign countries. Coordinate acquisition of raw materials and packaging. Experience with international shipping, logistics, customs etc. a plus or an ability to learn rapidly with minimal supervision. Must be hands on and detailed oriented with good interpersonal skills to work with management team, R&D, vendors, customers and collaborators, Reports to CFO. BS/BA or MBA.
Research Scientist - Chemistry
We are currently looking for a Research Scientist to join our natural products chemistry group. He/she will work as part of our team to extract and purify bioactive secondary metabolites and other compounds from microbial fermentation broths and plants.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in the development of processes for the isolation, separation and purification of targeted compounds from various microbial and plant sources.
- Extract, perform pre-fractionation of extracts and prepare samples for various bioassays.
- Conduct bioassay-guided fractionation of crude extracts to isolate and identify active fractions.
- Prepare laboratory notebooks, technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses.
- Maintain personal and shared work areas and equipments in good condition.
- Carry out assigned shared laboratory housekeeping tasks.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- BS or MS degree in chemistry
Experience
- 1+ years experience with isolation of compounds from natural sources is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Essential experience with relevant separation methods including centrifugation, liquid-liquid and solid-liquid extractions, fractionation, chromatography (Column chromatography, preparative HPLC).
- Experience with relevant analytical instrument & technique including chromatographic methods (LC) and spectroscopic methods (LC-MS) is a plus.
- Energetic, well-trained and self-motivated individual.
- Willing to learn and implement modern experimental techniques.
- Strong communications skills; able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Excellent analytical, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Proficiency in writing technical reports.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
Manufacturing Operations Engineer
Biochemical engineer to supervise contract manufacturing operations. Scale up microbial biopesticide fermentation processes, formulations and downstream processes from lab to pilot to contract manufacturer. Work closely with company's R&D department in a team taking things they develop to a commercial stage. Job also includes some plant-extract based products that require assessing toll manufacturing partners and transferring processes from the company's lab and coordinating with the contract manufactuer. Includes developing product specs (costs and technical parameters) for new products to guide R&D. Suggest cheaper raw materials and work with Logistics to source them for manufacturing.
Requires: BS, MS or PhD in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, or microbiology and 5-10 years of industry experience in industrial fermentation manufacturing.
Hiring in Second Half of 2008
Senior Entomologist
Develop and conduct laboratory and greenhouse bioassays against economically important insect pests. PhD in entomology and 2-5 years of experience in developing and conducting insect bioassays with biopesticides. Experience in industry a plus. Hiring for this position is scheduled for the second half of 2008.
